MUSICAL THEATRE AT NORTH HASTINGS HIGH SCHOOL
The Producer: Mary Burbidge
Mary’s interest in theatre started at a young age, when she was taken to see a production of The Nutcracker. Her mother and the movie The Sound of Music were the reasons why Mary got interested in Music Theatre. During her high school career, Mary took part in many musicals including You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Kiss Me Kate and Anything Goes. She continued acting through University in shows like Gypsy, Brigadoon, and Happy End. As an adult, Mary still continued to be involved in theatre.
She was president of the Bancroft Theatre Guild for many years. Her greatest accomplishment was the student production of The Importance of Being Ernest. Mary has been in many community productions that include the role of ‘Annabelle Glick’ in Lucky Stiff for the Theatrics Summer Theatre, Sound of Music in Maynooth, Random Acts, and many November Theatre productions. You may have seen Mary as the ‘Head Hobo’ in the original production of Snow Queen
last fall at the Bancroft Village Playhouse.
Mary has taught many of the former Music Theatre students in her classes and is very excited to be working with this year’s cast. She is thoroughly impressed by their vocal range and acting abilities. She decided to be the Producer of the music production of Anything Goes this year because she wanted to try teaching this course as well as being involved in it. She is looking forward to working with Allison Jowett on this production because she believes that Allison is very organized, talented, works very well with people.
