bancroft summer theatre

Summer theatre has been operating every year in this building since 1992, and is an anchor tenant for the Village Playhouse. The first 15 seasons were under the production of THEATRICS SUMMER THEATRE, who then arranged for LAUGH LINES THEATRE to take over summer operations for 2007-2010. Under the guidance of Laugh Lines, the next transition to a more broadly-based community group called BANCROFT SUMMER THEATRE began in 2011. This season BANCROFT SUMMER THEATRE in association with BLACKFLY SUMMER THEATRE will be producing two shows.

Tradition of Summer Theatre Continues

Bancroft Summer Theatre is happy to announce its line-up for the 22nd season of live theatre at the Bancroft Village Playhouse. The season starts with a hilarious farce by Marcia Kash and Douglas E. Hughes called Too Many Cooks. The Simcoe Reformer recently reviewed this play and declared it "A hilarious comedy... a huge success."

The play is set in Niagara Falls in 1932, with the rum-running business at its peak. In the aftermath of the Crash, Irving Bubbalowe and his daughter, Honey, have risked everything they have to open a new gourmet restaurant. When their star - the renowned singing chef François LaPlouffe - fails to appear, the grand opening is suddenly placed in jeopardy. The pace quickens steadily as do the laughs.

Too Many Cooks will run Tuesdays to Saturdays at 8 pm starting on July 2 and will close on July 20 with a matinee show on Saturday July 13.

Next up is a play by Richard Harris called Stepping Out. This is a rollicking comedy about the attempts of some working class amateurs to overcome their inhibitions and left feet in a low-rent dance studio in North London. Mavis, a former professional chorus girl tries her hardest to teach the bumbling amateurs some tap dance skills for an upcoming recital. But before the dancing begins Mavis must mediate the dramas that erupt among this motley but loveable crew on their way to triumph at their recital.

Stepping Out will run Tuesdays to Saturdays at 8 pm starting on July 30 and will close on August 17 with a matinee show on Saturday August 10.

Tickets are still just $20 each. Dinner theatre packages are also being offered on July 4 and 18 at 6 pm for Too Many Cooks and on Aug 1 and 15 for Stepping Out. Enjoy a homemade cold dinner buffet at St. Paul's United Church before the show. Tickets for dinner theatre are $32.

Tickets for all shows will be available at the box office which opens on June 12 at 2 pm. Box Office will be open Wed. to Sat. from 2 until 6 pm in June, then on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 2 to 8 pm in July and August. Tickets can be ordered in person or through our toll-free number 1-877-322-4682.
